This fun but educational hands-on Introduction to Electronics Kit is for independent study, homeschool co-ops, or classrooms. Recommended for Ages 10 and up (7 – 9 with an Adult). Great for Aptitude "testing" to see if students have the aptitude for Engineering and Technology or use to introduce students to Electronics.

The student(s) builds a time-delayed, Color Changing LED circuit. The student will learn to read a schematic diagram, understand basic electronic theory, learn what the basic components do, and experiment to see how the switch, resistor, capacitor, and transistor work together to control the color changing LED. (Classroom time is about 45 minutes.) This basic knowledge can then be used to understand new circuits. (It also teaches and gives a technique of how to read/identify resistor values.)

When completed, only a #2 lead pencil is needed to temporarily modify the circuit to do multiple experiments. By referring to the schematic diagram while doing these experiments, the student’s understanding of electronic theory and the functions of the components will be reinforced.

Detailed assembly and operational instructions, printed circuit board, all parts, and battery are included. There is a short guide on how to solder that explains “what to do” but cannot cover the full scope of technique and safety details -- therefore  order our Learn to Solder: Blue Board Kit for detailed soldering instructions and soldering practice if one does not know how to solder.

If you do not have a soldering iron and other basic tools, please see the tool sets we offer.  (The "Smaller Quality Tool Set" has all the tools you need for this kit.)
If your child/student was enthusiastic about this kit, then order our Basic Electronics Course: LED Scope Part 1 (and our Advanced Electronics Course: LED Scope Part 2, LED Array Oscilloscope).  Part 1 and Part 2 make up an intensive hands-on educational, but fun to build, course/curriculum.

We believe we have the highest quality kits in the “kit” industry (read our testimonials). Unlike most electronic kits, all our kits include a schematic, detailed printed instructions, and teaching material explaining the why and how things work. Kits from7+. Our Hands-on Electronics Courses (LED Scope) take students from no knowledge into the college level and prepares them for a basic Electronics Technician job or Technical Career. Our hands-on kits and courses are self-instructional (homeschool moms do not need to learn electronics), but can be used individually, in classrooms,  or homeschool co-ops.

As of August 2018 the State of California has changed the requirements of the “Prop 65” law. We now must list on our website any possible chemicals that can cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive problem.

As an example:
   ABS Plastic contains styrene
PVC wire insulation can contain Ki(2-ethythexl)phthalate (DEHP)
electrolytic capacitors can contain Ethlene glycol
   Brass can contain Lead
Flame retardant pc boards can contain Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA)
   Aluminum alloys can contain Chromium

To put it simply, we are a small company and do not have the resources to test every single part, so we list every thing as hazardous. Please recycle all electronic parts responsibly and under no circumstance eat, drink, or smoke these parts and wash your hands after touching!
